Privacy
This site and The 3% Rule app are published by BEYOND THE BOX SAS (SIREN 890 854 524), which is responsible for the data described below. Contact: hello@the3percentrule.com.
This site is designed to work without an account. The interactive puzzle and companion can store limited progress information locally in your browser so that, for example, your last opened puzzle or reveal state can be remembered on the same device.
Local storage
Local storage may be used for puzzle progress, a best web-test result, and spoiler reveal state. This information stays in the browser unless you clear it.
Analytics
We count visits ourselves, without cookies and without any third-party analytics service. Each page view and a few actions (starting or finishing the Daily, opening hints, revealing a hint, rule or answer, joining the launch list, following a retailer link) add 1 to a daily total on our server, together with the page name and, for the first page of a visit, the kind of site you came from (search engine, social network, direct). Nothing is stored on your device, and nothing that identifies you or your device (IP address, identifier, full referring address) is recorded. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is counted.
External services
Web fonts are currently loaded from Google Fonts. If you follow a retailer link or use your device's sharing feature, the privacy policy of that external service applies.
Book launch email
If you leave your email address in the “Notify me” form, we store it with the date you signed up, only to send you one email when the book is available. We do not use it for anything else and do not share it. A hash of your IP address is kept for no more than 2 days to limit abuse. To be removed from the list, write to hello@the3percentrule.com.
The 3% Rule app
The iOS and Android app, and its web version at /mobile, work without an account. Without one, your progress, stars, hints, solutions and settings are stored only on your device (and in your phone's own backup, if you use one).
Player account (optional)
The app asks you to sign in only when it is needed: to put your name in the Daily Challenge leaderboard, or before you buy hints or solutions. You sign in with your e-mail address and a 6-digit code we e-mail you; there is no password. Your account stores your e-mail address, the nickname you choose, your reserve of hints and solutions, your best result per level, and the list of hint and solution packs credited to it (the store's transaction reference, so a purchase is never counted twice). The app keeps a sign-in token on your device. Sign-in codes are sent by our mail provider (our host's mail server, or Resend). You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings > Delete my account): this erases your account, your nickname, your reserve and your leaderboard scores.
Daily Challenge
When you post a Daily Challenge score, the app sends your time and number of mistakes for that day and the app version, with your account (older app versions send a nickname and a random identifier created by the app instead). Your nickname and time are shown publicly on the daily leaderboard. The server stores only keyed hashes of identifiers, keeps scores so past leaderboards stay available, and uses a hash of your IP address for no more than 2 days to limit abuse.
Ads (store app only)
The iOS and Android app shows a full-screen ad every 10 levels played and after the Daily Challenge, until you buy “No ads”. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may collect your device's advertising identifier, approximate location from your IP address, and information about the ads shown and your interactions with them, to deliver, measure and, if you agree, personalise ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent first through Google's consent form, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad choices. On iPhone, personalised ads also require your permission in Apple's tracking prompt. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. The web version at /mobile shows no ads.
In-app purchases (store app only)
Purchases (No ads, hints, solutions and tips to support the developer) are processed by Apple or Google; we never see your payment details. “No ads” is tied to your Apple or Google account and can be restored with “Restore purchases”. Hints and solutions are added to your player account once our server has checked the purchase with Apple or Google, using the store's purchase reference. If you delete your account, that reference is kept without any link to you, so the same purchase cannot be credited twice.
